SCC emissions reporting - details to be worked out

January 2021 is the first month of the Sea Cargo Charter (SCC) reporting on emissions from ship chartering activities. A rush of questions from both signatories and companies that are considering joining, show that details need to be discussed further.

Siglar adds the last piece to charterers' carbon reporting puzzle

Many responsible dry bulk charterers measure and report emissions from their entire value chain. Reporting value chain emissions can be a puzzle, and chartering activities often represent a missing piece. Siglar keeps daily track of emissions from all shipping activities, regardless of ship type, size or freight contract, to help add that last piece to your puzzle.

New board members to support Siglar in a phase of growth

Øyvind Schanke and Peder Engeset join the Siglar Board of Directors to support the company in a growing phase. Schanke will take on the role as chairman of the board.

Emission Schemes

EU Emissions Trading System

The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) is the European Union’s carbon pricing mechanism, and since 2024 it has included maritime transport. It places a cost on greenhouse gas emissions from ships by requiring companies to monitor emissions (under EU MRV) and surrender tradable emission allowances.

UK Emissions Trading System

The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) is the United Kingdom’s carbon pricing mechanism. It operates as a cap-and-trade system that places a cost on greenhouse gas emissions by requiring operators to surrender tradable emission allowances corresponding to their verified emissions.

Gabon Sovereign Carbon Initiative

The Governments of Djibouti and Gabon have introduced sovereign carbon registry frameworks that apply a carbon cost to qualifying ship movements to and from their ports.
