IMO raises awareness on the charterer's role in reducing emissions

During an IMO meeting last week member states agreed on a plan to facilitate the reduction of the carbon intensity of international shipping. A key point was the approval of operational ship performance requirements. The focus on operational performance targets the existing fleet, and it raises awareness on charterers' role in reducing shipping emissions.

We get you fully aligned with the Sea Cargo Charter framework

The launching of the Sea Cargo Charter (SCC) is warmly welcomed by Siglar. In the Siglar Carbon Monitoring & Reporting dashboard all chartering activities are monitored and reported according to the Sea Cargo Charter requirements.

Know the reduction potential of your freight deal

The Siglar Carbon indexes let charterers compare the carbon exposure of potential ships and routes for their cargo. This way, substantial reduction potential is highlighted.

Emission Schemes

UK Emissions Trading System

The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) is the United Kingdom’s carbon pricing mechanism. It operates as a cap-and-trade system that places a cost on greenhouse gas emissions by requiring operators to surrender tradable emission allowances corresponding to their verified emissions.

IMO Net Zero Framework

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is developing a global regulatory framework intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping in line with the 2023 IMO GHG Strategy, which aims to achieve net-zero emissions from international shipping by or around 2050.

Djibouti Sovereign Carbon Initiative

The Governments of Djibouti and Gabon have introduced sovereign carbon registry frameworks that apply a carbon cost to qualifying ship movements to and from their ports.
